WHAT STOPS PLAYERS FROM IMPROVING?
5 Biggest Problems in coaching
-

1. Lack of Proper Education & Teaching
Players are thrown into drills and expected to get it right. Old-School running and yelling sessions might build toughness, but they don’t teach skills. Discipline matters, but learning comes first.
-

2. Feedback Gaps
Kids show up to training but don’t know what they did wrong. Clear feedback is how they actually improve.
-

3. Gaps in Tackle technique
There’s not enough focus on tackling. Many juniors can’t make one-on-one tackles on both shoulders, and it shows later with mistakes and injuries.
-

4. Coaching Styles
Coach too soft, and players muck up. Coach too hard, and they hate it. Getting discipline and control right without losing the group is one of the hardest parts of coaching.
-

5. Evidence of improvement
Players can enjoy sessions but not actually improve. Fancy drills might look good, but progress needs to be measurable and seen in the game and in their confidence.

From Player to Coach
”Signed by the Wests Tigers at 13, I came through elite male systems like the Raiders NYC and NSW Cup train-on squads before injuries pushed me into coaching. While teaching, I found a gap in the way rugby league was educated and coached. That’s what started Steps2Success (S2S).”
